NFC Setup Guide

Make your NFC badge open a website when tapped. Write the link, test it, then decide whether to prevent future changes. Locking is optional and is not needed to use the badge.

Download the NFC Setup and Locking Guide (PDF) for the full instructions, app QR codes and official help links.

1. Install NFC Tools and check your tag

Use NFC Tools by wakdev. Get the official app: Android on Google Play or iPhone on the App Store. The PDF also includes app QR codes. You need an NFC-capable phone and a compatible, writable tag. Enable NFC on Android where required. Use Read in NFC Tools to check the tag first. App and tag support vary; check your own hardware.

2. Write your website link

Open your intended website and check it works. In NFC Tools, choose Write > Add a record > URL / URI. Enter the full website address. If the app has a separate https:// selector, do not enter that prefix twice. Keep one URL record, then tap Write and hold the badge at your phone's NFC antenna until success appears.

3. Test before locking

Read the badge again and verify the saved link. Close the app and test with another NFC-capable phone, ideally both iPhone and Android. Wake and unlock the phone, tap the badge and open the link notification. Confirm the correct page loads. App-free iPhone scanning requires iPhone XS or later.

4. Optional permanent locking

A permanent lock cannot be undone, reset or erased. A different stored URL will require a replacement tag. Do not lock until the link is correct and the app supports locking your tag. For a supported tag, choose Other > Lock tag, read the warning and follow the PDF instructions. Read again to check read-only status where shown, then retest the link. If locking fails or support is unclear, ask your supplier; do not assume the badge is protected.

People can still read the link after locking. If you control the website at that same address, you can update that website. Password protection is a separate, tag-dependent option and is not the permanent lock described here.

If scanning fails

Unlock the phone, enable NFC where required, move the badge slowly around the antenna and remove a thick or metal case. Do not store passwords or private account links on a public badge.
